Pirramimma passed her survey and the water trials with flying colours, which was a relief. We had a few additional items we wanted fitted and all that work was completed by the middle of September 2014. She was still out of the water as we had, at that stage, plans to have her transported to France. But a couple of outstanding issues that had not been sorted out to our satisfaction, kept her in the Netherlands at that point. In the end, this was 'A Good Thing'. But at that moment in time, it was very much 'A Bad Thing'.
But we naturally wanted to take some kit and start to pack things away onboard and we also wanted to go through a re-naming ceremony as soon as possible. Her new name was already fixed to both sides and to her stern. Neptune needed to be appeased! Now, naming a boat is pretty easy, but renaming a boat is fraught with superstition and we wanted to make sure we did everything correctly. We found an excellent renaming format and we also made a little model of the boat with her old name on it.
On the 27th September, 2014, this 'old' boat was formally consigned to the deep and Pirramimma was then officially renamed with all the pomp and ceremony we could muster. It had been such a long, and recently, very fraught journey as we tried to sort out paperwork, that I nearly cried with emotion as I read out the words of the renaming ceremony.
Naturally, a bottle of Champagne was chilled and ready for the occasion with Neptune receiving his due and rightful share. Pirramimma (may God bless her, and all who sail in her!) had her new ensign raised at the stern and we clambered onboard to survey our new kingdom.
Later in the week, we purchased important items such as a new Nespresso coffee machine, a new combination microwave/grill/oven and other pieces of highly essential kit to replace the old kit onboard.
On the last evening of this particular trip, we gave a small drinks party for some of our friends at Elburg Yachting and also invited another new friend from Denmark to join us. Lovely people, lovely Champagne, lovely evening on a very lovely boat.
